Braden Moon homered in the second giving the Wolves what would prove to be the deciding run as Newsome won on the road in the season opener. Evan Dempsey took over from there, striking out a dozen, allowing a single hit in five innings on the mound. Ryan Spitzer chipped in a two-run double and a solo homer, and Nick Bolasco was 3-for-4 for the Wolves.

Steinbrenner sophomore Austin Liss cruised in his season debut on the mound, striking out 11 while allowing one hit and one walk, cruising to a win on the road. Senior Charles Williams (2-for-3, double, two runs, two RBI) got the Warriors on the board in the first with an RBI single; and junior Cayden Hessemyer struck out three in relief in the seventh inning.

Lennard’s Matty Counts RBI double in the fourth made a Jefferson error hurt, plating the games first run and the Longhorns added two more in the inning to push things the home team’s way in both team’s opening game. Senior Jack Mueller allowed just two hits and struck out six in five innings, before turning things over to Carter Payne, who finished the final two innings to earn the save. Jefferson starter Mikey Marroquin struck out five, but was tagged with the loss allowing three runs (two earned.

Plant City held off a last-inning rally from Freedom to earn an opener win, behind a big fourth inning and a steady start from senior Adan Longoria. Longoria struck out nine in his five innings of work, and also went 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate. Wyatt Fordham‘s two-run double to right capped the Raiders five-run inning in the middle of the game. Freedom’s Logan Lambert cleared the bases in the seventh with a double, but was thrown out to end the game at third base.

Five Jesuit pitchers combined on a one-hit win, striking out 10 as the Tigers pounded out 10 hits for a first win on the year. Grant Jordan‘s solo home run, and an RBI single by Wes Mendes (2-for-3, run) put the Tigers up in the third inning. Mendes singled to start the sixth, scored on a double from Noah Sheffield (2-for-3, double, run, RBI), followed by Clay Thompson tripling in Sheffield, and the five inning frame was punctuated by a two-win homer to left by Jake Glover.
