Newsome’s Cash Peterson doubled in a pair to walk-off a win in extra innings in a battle of Top 10 teams. Wolves senior Wade Walton struck out 10, working 6 1/3 innings before meeting the pitch count. Connor Fulmino singled and scored on an error in the top of the seventh to give the Panthers a momentary lead, but Drew Mega responded with an RBI single in the bottom-half to force extra innings. The Panthers pushed across a run in the eighth as James Leach singled, and eventually scored on three walks. Anthony DeVito was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run for the Wolves, and Rocco DeMarinis pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Panthers with three strikeouts in a no-decision.

Gaither 6, #3 Durant 5

After being held to one run on one hit for five innings against Durant senior Chase Mobley, Gaither stormed back forcing Mobley from the mound and winning the game in a walk-off RBI sac fly from Nico Lopez (1-for-3, 3 RBI, run). Mobley struck out nine in 5 1/3, allowing three earned runs on four total hits. Gaither’s Michael Fernandez struck out five in 5 2/3 innings of a no-decision, and Zach Callahan picked up his fifth win, finishing off the final four outs, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Blaine Rowland was 3-for-4, with a double and two RBI for the Cougars, and Brantley Hayward hit a two-run double.

A bases-loaded wild pitch allowed Bloomingdale senior Johnny De La Rosa to walk off a win in a pitcher’s duel. Bulls junior Hayden Porter held the Dragons to three hits, issuing four walks and striking out seven in a complete-game shutout win, and Jefferson senior Mikey Marroquin took the loss, allowing one run on two hits and six walks, also finishing with seven strikeouts.

Crusaders senior Alex Sotiropoulos struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings as Tampa Catholic won on the road at Cardinal Mooney. Cal Johnson singled and scored in the first and TC added a run in the fourth on a Carson Arnold single, and Johnson walked and scored another in the top of the fifth. Cardinal Mooney cut the lead down to one when Mateu Delmau led off the home-sixth with a double, and Wyatt Hossenlopp and Jake Armstrong singled in runs. TC padded the lead in the seventh, Johnson again chipping in with an RBI ground ball. Dominic Woodward finished off the game for the Crusaders, allowing a hit and a walk, with one strikeout.

Carrollwood Day’s late-inning rally fell just short after the Patriots spotted Sunlake seven runs in the first six innings. Seahawks junior Dominic Italiano worked five scoreless, striking out 10 before running into some trouble in the sixth. Carrollwood Day scratched back four runs in the sixth when Nick Bonollo singled in a run, Nick Riedel doubled in two, and Ethan Heintz drove in one on a sac fly. The Patriots cut the lead to one with a Christian Clarke sac fly and Julian Earle ground ball, but couldn’t get the tying run across. Italiano was 3-for-5, with a double and two RBI, and Zach Merriman had a two-run triple in the third.
