Bloomingdale alum Owens takes home Saladino Award
Bloomingdale’s Jack Owens has been named the 53rd recipient of the Saladino Award, which was announced Sunday. Owens posted an impressive senior season for the Bulls, both on the mound and at the plate, going 7-1, with a 1.50 ERA and 68 strikeouts, while hitting .372, with 19 RBI and scoring 19 times. Owens hit 10 doubles and five home runs in 2022.

The Saladino Award, presented annually to the top graduating senior has been awarded since 1971 (with two winners in each of the first two seasons), with the exception of the 2020 season (Covid-19).
Owens becomes just the third player from Bloomingdale to win the award, joining previous Bulls winners Mike Valdes (1995) and Ryan Strauss (2004). Fourteen of the previous Saladino Award winners have reached the MLB.
Owens, a Stetson signee, was also a two-time All-813Preps first team selection, and was named our 2021 Pitcher of the Year after helping Bloomingdale capture its first baseball FHSAA state title in his junior season. Owens was also a FACA senior All-Star selection, and a two-time Western Conference First Team selection.
