#2 Jesuit 4, Lakewood Ranch 3

Jesuit rallied for a win at home, with Cannon Murtagh‘s RBI single through short walking off the Tigers win.  Jack Clark singled to lead off the home-seventh, before Lakewood Ranch picked up two outs. From there the Tigers loaded the bases and Jacob Lozano and DJ Pirela erased a two-run Mustangs lead. Lakewood Ranch manufactured a pair of runs in the fourth on a ground out and sac fly, and built up the lead the next inning with three singles, including an RBI line drive to right from Luis Flores. Kaeden Waechter singled in the Tigers first run in the home-fifth, and the sophomore worked a scoreless inning of relief to pick up the win.  McCall Biemiller (3.1ip, 2 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 6 K’s), Ryan Thompson (1.1ip, R, 3 H, 4 K’s) and Brady Hoar (1ip,  H, 2 K’s) combined for 12 strikeouts for the Tigers. Lachlan Radloff was 3-for-4 for the Mustangs.

Chamberlain senior Yadiel Garcia struck out a dozen, and allowed one unearned run on two hits and one walk. Garcia also singled in the Storm’s opening-frame run, and tripled and scored the deciding run in the fourth. Freedom senior Cade Hoffman drove in the lone run for his team.

Two run-scoring doubles from Bishop Verot’s Owen Rardin kept early pace with Tampa Catholic, before Maddix Simpson‘s two-run double put the Vikings ahead for good. Cole Bitman (2-for-4, run) and Ethan Frame singled in runs in the third inning for the Crusaders, and Hershey Sanchez was 3-for-4 as TC collected 11 hits, including a Charlie Parker triple.

Jefferson senior Mikey Marroquin scattered six Alonso hits, pitching 6 1/3 innings and striking out two in a shutout win – his seventh victory on the mound this season. Alliuq Troupe doubled to begin the home-second and scored on an RBI single from Hayden Sekanick. Troupe would again lead off the fourth with a single, and score on an error on a bunt from Sekanick. Another error in the fifth allowed Cameron Copple to scored from second; and Cameron Mallo would pick up the save, relieving Marroquin for the final two outs. Daniel Despaine was 2-for-3 for the Ravens, and Samuel Fernandez had a double in the loss.

Berkeley Prep 4, #8 Tampa Catholic 1

Berkeley Prep has run its win streak up to six games, taking down district opponent Tampa Catholic at home on Tuesday. Junior Rivers Kurland followed up his no-hitter from last week, with his third-straight complete game, holding the Crusaders to one run on six hits and finishing with 10 strikeouts. Tampa Catholic opened the game with singles from Cole Bitman, and Hershey Sanchez, (2-for-3), followed by a sac bunt from Ethan Frame, that setup Dominic Woodward to drive in the game’s first run with a ground ball through the right side. But from there Kurland would wiggle out of the jam and hold TC to just three more singles. A Jett Walters‘ RBI sac fly in the third would tie the game, and Kurland helped his own cause with a run-scoring double in the fifth to plate the deciding run. Josh Hermann went 3-for-3 in the win, scoring twice, Lucas Farrar tripled in a run, and scored on a passed ball.

King 14, Wharton 8

Wharton and King traded punches as both teams put up 11 hits apiece and see-sawed the lead a few times. Wharton put up four runs in the fifth highlighted by RBI singles from Jake Turer (3-for-4, two RBI, run) and Daniel Munoz (2-for-3, two runs), but King would respond in the home-half with a nine-spot behind a two-run double from Anthony Lara (two runs scored), a two-run triple from Jayden Hill (two runs), and an RBI double from Koveyontez Balentine (who scored three times in the win). Freshman Michael Pena took over on the mound to stop the Wharton rally and record the final out of the fifth, and kept his team in the lead finishing the game and earning the win on the mound. Carlos Rivera held the Wildcats to one unearned run on two hits, and struck out a pair in his three inning start, and Cooper Messenger went 2-for-2, with two walks, three RBI and a run scored for the Lions. Chris Stroud was 2-for-3 for the Wildcats with a double and an RBI.

The Barons answered a Spartans’ third-inning run, with a three-run home half as Sam Newman tied the game with a single, SPC added other on an RBI Carlos Marroquin sac fly, before Newman stole home to secure the winning run. Chris Owens allowed two unearned runs in his four innings on the mound, earning the win and Aidan Heelan picked up the three-inning save, allowing one hit and striking out two. SLAM’s JJ Shipherd walked and scored his team’s first run, and added an RBI single in the fifth, and Dylan Harich took the loss, tagged with four unearned runs, on four hits and four walks, while striking out three.

Wade Walton limited the Longhorns to just two hits (a double and single from Cole Montgomery) and a walk, in a complete-game, 12-strikeout performance for Newsome. Mistakes proved costly for the Longhorns early, as a hit batter, an error, a walk and a passed ball allowed the deciding run, before two more runs on passed balls were sandwiched around a Cash Peterson RBI single. Braden Moon (3-for-4, two runs) hit his fifth home run of the year to right field to lead off the fifth, and Drew Mega sacrificed in an insurance run.

Spoto senior Cullen Cairns struck out 10 in five innings, allowing one Brandon run to earn the win. An error allowed the Spartans to score two early runs, and Cairns secured the win with an RBI single in the third plating the eventual game-winner. Peyton Nisy was 2-for-4, with a run scored and Levert Sims (1-for-1, walk, two runs) and Devin Dukes each had two RBI. Francis Ovalles singled in the third and scored on an RBI double from Jacob Sjerven for the Eagles, and Abrahm Gideons struck out five, allowing one unearned run in his 2 2/3 innings of relief.

East Bay strung together three-straight hits in the third inning as Andrew Gingrich led off with a double and would score on a single into center by Rory beauford Jr. Domanick Roush drove in another on a groundball, and the Indians built up the lead with another productive out from Bobby Hayes, which scored Connor Gavigan (double). John Viane held the Raiders to one run in 4 1/3 innings on the mound, striking out two and allowing four hits, and Reilly Kinney finished the final eight outs, allowing one run on two hits to earn the save. Plant City senior Colin Pellicer was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, and Lane Baxter singled in Salvador Jaramillo (2-for-3) for the Raiders second run.

Steinbrenner and Leto battled it out for eight scoreless innings, before the Warriors finally broke through with a five-run 10th inning to win on the road. Steinbrenner’s Cayden Hessemyer (one hit, two walks, 11 K’s) and Leto’s Arley Duran (one hit, one walk, seven strikeouts) each put up seven-inning shutouts innings on the mound for their teams. In the ninth, senior Aiden Carew singled to lead off and would score what would prove the deciding run on a two-run single from Aiden Forde (2-for-4, double, run). Kelton Meares struck out two in his two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Cambridge Christian 8, Brooks DeBartolo 4

Cambridge Christian freshman Braiden Price hit a first-inning grand slam and add an RBI sac fly later in the game as the Lancers defeated Brooks DeBartolo on the road, Tuesday. Sophomore Will Snider struck out four, allowing one run on three hits in his four innings on the mound to pick up the win. Nick Mayer, Zachary Uhl and Torey Thomas drove in runs for the Lancers. Joe DiCecco was 2-for-4 for the Phoenix scoring twice, and DJ Valley and Messiah Williams (two RBI) singled in runs as Brooks attempted a final comeback, but Lancers reliever Blake Hafner got a pop out to end the game and earn the save.

An RBI single from Christian Clarke (2-for-3) broke a tie game in the sixth as Carrollwood Day won an early-evening game against visiting Cambridge Christian. Patriots junior Logan Babb and Lancers eighth-grader Trigg Listerman duked it out from the mound, both striking out seven and allowing five hits. Babb earned the win, going 6 1/3 innings, before junior Logan Mazur closed out the win, earning the save with a strikeout and fly out. Cambridge’s Brody Bellomo doubled in the games first run in the third inning, and the Lancers extended the lead on an RBI single from Blake Hafner. CDS answered in the fourth with an RBI double from Nick Bonollo, and Nick Riedel tied the game with an RBI single, and Ethan Heintz squeezed in the Pats insurance run in the sixth.

Tampa Bay Tech and Middleton traded leads a few times, both posting big innings before the Titans clawed out a seventh-inning win as senior Javion McKay (2-for-4) singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Sadarian Austin (2-for-4, two runs) and held off the Tigers in the bottom half. Senior Tiergan Andrus-Rhoads pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, striking out eight and allowing three unearned runs to pick up the win for TBT. For Middleton, Kelvon Stewart was 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Tate Hancock went 1-for-2 with a double, and scored three times.

Tampa Prep’s Will Futch singled in a run, and Will Jennewein put the game out of reach with a two-run hit as the Terrapins defeated Brooks DeBartolo on Monday. Liam Akins held the Phoenix to two unearned runs, working six innings, giving up three singles and striking out six, and Kyle Brill picked up his fifth save of the season, with a strikeout in the seventh. Futch added a two run single in the sixth, Derek Stiglich was 1-for-2 and scored twice, and Ignacio Gonzalez was 2-for-3 in the win. Brooks DeBartolo junior Joe DiCecco worked six innings and struck out six, and DJ Valley went 2-for-3, and scored a run in the loss.
