Softball Region Semifinals
Class 4A-Region 3
Tampa Catholic 15,
The First Academy 5 (5 innings)
Tampa Catholic’s offense got going quickly and kept going
throughout to defeat Orlando The Frist Academy in region semifinal play.
Caitlyn Curry (4-for-4) started things with an RBI double in the first, Alexa
Russo’s two-run triple and another RBI single from Curry in the second gave the
Crusaders all the runs it would need. However, that didn’t stop TC’s bats as
Madison Epperson homered to left to start the third, before two more runs came
in on a two-run Grace Burleigh single, and the Crusaders batted around in the
fourth highlighted by an RBI double by Hera Varmah, an RBI triple by Epperson,
an RBI single by Julia Engebretson. An Olivia Mendez RBI single in the fifth
ended the game by mercy-rule.
Holy Names 10, Montverde
Academy 3
Holy Names will get a rematch against its district champion
foe, Tampa Catholic in the region final hosted by the Crusaders next Tuesday,
at 6 p.m. in the region final.
Class 3A-Region 3
Carrollwood Day 8,
Orlando Faith Christian 2
First-inning RBI singles from Sydney Pelaez (3-for-3,
double, two runs scored) and Kylie Coffin got things started for the Patriots,
and Carrollwood Day would add three more two-run innings including a two-run
home run to left by Emma Frost (double, four RBI) to defeat Faith Christian.
Coffin also earned the win on the mound in a complete-game effort striking out
eight and allowing two earned.
