Cambridge Christian defeats Orangewood Christian 2-0 to advance to the FHSAA Regional Finals next Tuesday! pic.twitter.com/2Npjy1Kfie— Cambridge Christian (@CCSLancers) May 10, 2017
Cambridge Christian senior Alex Smith worked 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball to help lead the Lancers to a 2-0, Class 3A region semifinal win over Maitland Orangewood Christian, Wednesday afternoon.
Smith struck out seven and allowed 4 hits, before turning things over to Austin Carter who recorded the final strikeout and picked up the save.
The Cambridge Christian (23-6) defense worked well behind Smith’s pitching effort committing just a single error, highlighted by Tilden Agee behind the plate who threw out three would-be base stealers in the win.
The Lancers on the other hand took advantage of Orangewood Christian miscues in the fifth to score a pair of runs on errors.
Offensively, Austin Hessinger had a triple for CCS, while Carter and Agee each had hits in the win.
Cambridge Christian advances to the region final to face Bishop McLaughlin (winners 3-1 over Oviedo Master’s Academy) in a rematch of the 3A-4 district final. Game will be at Bishop McLaughlin next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
