Cougars senior Sean Hermann struck out 13, while allowing one hit as Durant picked up a mercy-rule win in its season opener. Oscar Fernandez tallied three hits, driving in a pair; Luke Scolaro had a pair of hits, including a triple and two RBI, Aidan Welsh had a pair of hits, and Dylan LaPointe doubled and drove in two in the win.

Berkeley Prep took an early lead but had a fight on its hands from McKeel Academy who rallied late, but fell just short against the Buccaneers. Andrew DiMisa went 2-for-3 at the plate, with a double, a run and RBI, and also picked up his second save of the fresh season, with two strikeouts in the final inning. James Hankerson also had a double and two hits (one RBI) in the win.

Sophomore Evan Chrest allowed just two hits in four innings on the mound, while striking out eight as Wharton earned win No. 2 on the season pounding out 15 runs on nine hits. Billy Eich, who homered in Wednesday’s win at Newsome, stayed hot going 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI, while Dylan McDonald tripled in a run and had an RBI sac fly. Zach Ehrhard doubled and scored twice and Tyson Sutton scored two and plated two.

Bloomingdale exploded for 11 runs in the first two innings, as nine Bulls hitters recorded a hit in a win over Newsome. Bulls senior Colby Shelton started the scoring off with a two-run homer in the first, and later added an RBI single; Gabe Garrett reached base five times, going 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base; Marlon Bowen went 2-for-2, with a run and two RBI. For Newsome Fulton Lockhart had two hits, including a double and RBI and Evan Wainman hit a solo home run.
