Newsome 4 – nine innings

Hillsborough answered deficits twice pushing things to extra-innings, where the Terriers ended the game in the ninth inning when Adrian Arroyo (3-for-4) scored his second run of the game, deciding it on an error. Salvy Urso (run), Donald Gorgei (two RBI), Tanner Jones (RBI) and Elijah Burse each had two hits for Hillsborough. Kyler Martin pitched two innings of relief, and Gorgei slammed the door closed with three scoreless innings and seven strikeouts. Newsome took advantage early as Evan Dempsey (3-for-5) reached on an error and scored on a second error, followed by an RBI single by Matt Giles; Evan Wainman got a singled in his first at-bat of the season; Lucas Phelps homered to center, and Caeden Diaz was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two walks for the Wolves in the loss. Hillsborough travels to Jesuit on Monday for a 7pm game.

Grant Jordan cleared the bases with a double in the first inning and Jesuit never looked back. Wes Mendes and Jake Kulikowski hit back-to-back homers in the fourth as the top-seeded Tigers won its opening game of the Saladino. Mendes earned his second win of the season, striking out seven and allowing two runs (one earned). Josh Hines was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored, and AJ Nessler drove in a pair. Vincent Docobo was 2-for-4 for Tampa Catholic in the loss. Jesuit hosts Hillsborough at 7pm on Monday, while Tampa Catholic travels to Bloomingdale for a showdown with Newsome at 4pm.

(8) Bloomingdale 2 – 12 innings

A single and three walks, the final one drawn by Jake Vildostegui pushed across a 12th-inning run as Steinbrenner won a long battle against Bloomingdale late Saturday night. Cayden Hessemyer and Joey Daniels each had two hits for the Warriors, and Evan Cuervo scored twice. Benjamin Geraghty pitched five innings, allowing just one unearned run, while striking out four to earn the win in relief of Aidan Dorell (7ip, one run, five K’s). Bloomingdale answered an 11th inning Steinbrenner run on a Drake Harman RBI single, and put a man aboard in the 12th but couldn’t find the evener. Harman, Jack Owens (double) and Bobby Rossi each had two hits for the Bulls. Steinbrenner will take on Sickles at 4pm at Jefferson on Monday, while the Bulls will host Tampa Catholic at 7pm.

RBI singles by Gio Mendoza and EJ Reyes sparked a three-run sixth in a come-from-behind victory for Freedom. Marshall Chastain pitched three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for the Pats, and Evan Mobley struck out three in his one-inning save. Freedom faces Robinson at 1pm from Strawberry Crest, while King plays Riverview at 10am at Crest.

For East Bay, Kayleb Wright was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and scored twice, while Robert Hayes (two runs, RBI), Tate Gran (2 RBI, three runs), Ty Andrews (2 RBI, 2 runs), and Taurean Norman (2 RBI) each had multi-hit games for the Indians.

Johnny DeLa Rosa doubled and drove in a run for the Eagles, while Marlon Garcia was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
