Durant’s Mobley named ’24 FACA MVP; others honored

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Durant senior Chase Mobley was named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 15 Most Valuable Player by area coaches on Monday night. Mobley, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound right-handed pitcher and outfielder leads Hillsborough County with 80 strikeouts for the Cougars this season. He is 4-1 on the mound, with a 1.35 ERA, while also hitting .351 with four home runs, 19 RBI and 16 runs scored with one regular season game to play.

The MVP honors earn Mobley a spot in the FACA Baseball All-Star Classic, a two-day baseball tournament and showcase for professional and college scouts, held in Lakeland (this year at Historic Henley Field) from May 29-30.

Newsome right-hander Wade Walton (High Point signee) and Jesuit lefty McCall Biemiller (University of Florida signee) finished second and third in MVP voting from Hillsborough County head coaches, respectively. Area scouts will provide the FACA with individual invitations for graduating seniors at the end of the high school season.
