#10 Tampa Catholic 2, Berkeley Prep 0

Tampa Catholic got lights-out pitching from senior Alex Sotiropoulos (Win; 5ip, 1 H, 10 K’s) and junior  Dominic Woodward (Sv; 2ip, 1 H, 3 K’s) as the duo held Berkeley Prep scoreless in a district championship win. Sotiropoulos walked with two outs in the second inning, advanced a base on a wild pitch and came across for the deciding run on a Jose Carrero line-drive single to center. Crusaders used two-out hitting again in the sixth to extend the lead when catcher Ethan Frame singled to left and speedup runner Christian Serralles scored two batters later on a Carson Arnold ground ball single up the middle. Berkeley Prep’s Ben O’Brien struck out four in his two innings on the mound, but took the loss allowing one run on one hit and one base-on-balls.

Palmetto rallied with four hits and two walks in the fourth inning to fend off Bloomingdale and claim the 6A-11 district title. After spotting the Bulls a one-run lead in the first when Pierce Collins singled to right, the Tigers took control with two outs in the fourth first tying the game on a Blake Willis (2-for-3, run) single to right, then taking the lead on a bases-loaded walk, and sealing the victory with a two runs scoring on a Jackson Moates single to center. Dawson Rankin (who scored on Collins’ single in the first) cut into the lead with an RBI  hit in the seventh, but Bloomingdale couldn’t draw the game any closer.

DeMarinis delivered a complete-game for Plant, allowing three runs, and striking out seven. The Hurricanes scored a run in each of the first three innings, including a solo home run by Alex Walker to left field, but the Panthers had put the game out of reach in the top of the third, with Swank driving in the deciding run with a sac fly and Matthew Midyett singling in a run.
