Berkeley Prep junior Rivers Kurland struck out 14 in a complete-game effort as the Buccaneers won a quarterfinal game against Fort Meade. Joseph Troupe‘s first-inning single plated a pair and Berkeley built on to the lead in the fourth with three runs. Jett Walters singled to lead off the fourth, moved over on one of Troupe’s two walks in the game, then advanced on a George Cook single before stealing home to score the eventual game winner. Julie Pfau had an RBI sac fly in the inning and Cook scored on a wild pitch. Kurland ran into a little trouble in the sixth, allowing three-straight singles, including an RBI hit by Jeremy Cabrera, and a balk to bring in a second run. However, the lefty regrouped and stranded a pair in scoring position with a K, then finished the game with a 1-2-3 seventh. Fort Meade senior Carson Montsdeoca worked all six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out 11. Berkeley Prep will travel to face region top seed Calvary Christian on Saturday, at 7 pm.

Calvary Christian senior Andrew Tess hit a two-run homer to left in the first inning as the Warriors pulled away from Tampa Prep in a five-inning win in the 3A Region quarterfinals. Grayson Gibson worked three innings on the mound before the Warriors had built up enough of a lead to earn the junior his 10th win of the season. Maddox Bozeman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI, Antwan Jackson was 2-for-2, with a walk and scored three times, and Maximus Mayes doubled and scored three runs for Calvary. Logan Bailey lined an RBI single into left in the second inning to score the lone Terrapins run. Calvary Christian will host Berkeley Prep in Saturday’s region semifinal.

McKeel Academy junior Caleb Clanton held Robinson to just three hits, while striking out four in a complete-game shutout win. Jorge Cordova‘s RBI single to right drove in the game’s deciding run in the second inning, and KJ Scobey doubled in a run and scored one for the Wildcats. Samuel Hyman was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs, but only one earned as the Knights committed three errors behind him. Hyman went four innings, giving up three hits, walking four and striking out three, before Santiago Rojas worked the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
