Staff Report
The Saladino Baseball Tournament returns for its 44th installment next March, and will once again feature three exciting tournament divisions.
All division will feature pool-play rounds from Saturday, March 15th through Tuesday, March 18th, with each team guaranteed at least four tournament games.
Gold Division consolation teams will play their fourth game, while the four pool winners will face off in semifinal action on Wednesday, March 19th, with the Saladino Championship Final taking place at the University of Tampa on Thursday, March 20th.
Silver and Bronze Division Tournaments are split into two pools, with each pool winner facing off in that tournament championship on Wednesday, March 19th.
All tournaments will be split into pools (Gold – 4 divisions; Silver & Bronze – 2 divisions) with each division producing a pool winner based on tie-breaker rules in the following order: head-to-head; runs allowed; runs scored; coin flip. The highest seed based on the coaches committee rankings will be the home team throughout pool play and semifinal rounds. Championship games will have a coin flip to determine home team.
The tournament rankings and divisions were voted on by a committee of four area coaches based on multiple factors including: last season’s Saladino results; last season’s final FHSAA rankings; and finish in the FHSAA state playoffs. Also considered by the coaches were fall impressions and current team rosters.
No member of the Saladino Board or 813Preps had a vote in the rankings, pools or divisions for this tournament.
Gold Division
Jefferson, Lennard and Tampa Catholic again return as hosts this season, joined by Durant hosting Gold Division pool games this season.
