Supporting the strong pitching, the Wildcats scored a pair of runs on a line drive single to left by Jaylen Martin; Andres was 2-for-3 in the win. Three Sickles pitchers allowed two unearned run in the loss, striking out 10 in the loss, with Jake Taylor leading the way with five. Taylor and Emilio Salgado had two hits for the Gryphons; Jordan Yost was 1-for-2, with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base.

Cambridge rallied from a five-run deficit, scoring six in the sixth inning stringing together six hits and a walk keyed by Luca Gonzalez (2-for-4), who singled up the middle to score two and tie the game at five-apiece, before a balk gave the Lancers a momentary lead. Canterbury first baseman Braden Adorno doubled in the home-sixth and scored his team’s sixth run on a Cambridge error. The Lancers would load the bases in the top of the seventh on two walks and a Blake Hafner single, before CCS got the deciding run on a walk drawn by Ian Jansen (1-for-2, 2B, R). Zachary Uhl earned the win pitching 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowed one unearned run and struck out three, and Hafner walked one, but struck out a pair to earn the save. Will Snider started on the mound for Cambridge and allowed two earned runs and striking out five; Brody Bellome was 2-for-3, with a double, run, RBI and stolen base; and Robert Moore went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Bloomingdale picked up its first win of the season using a four-run third to get past Alonso, AJ Cruz drove in a run with a sac fly to start things off for the Bulls. The four-run frame supported a strong start for staff ace Hayden Porter who held the Ravens to one unearned run on three hits, while striking out nine. Vaughn Osting went 3-for-3 including an RBI double in the win; Vinny Dinzeo Jr. and Izzy Perez each had two hits. Alonso’s Maikol Madueno had an RBI double and Raymond Llanes was 2-for-4, scoring one and driving in one.

Durant earned its first win of the season in its home opener against visiting Jefferson. The Cougars got going in the second, when a pair of walks led to a two-run double from Shawn Graves. An error in the fourth allowed the Cougars a little cushion, and Durant put three runs on a two-run single by Jack Brooks and a wild pitch. Cougars starting pitcher Tristan Macpherson cruised through his first five innings, before a pair of walks in the sixth forced the sophomore hurler from the mound. Jefferson made those walks hurt scoring a runs on a Nate Brewer ground ball and a throwing error. Dragons pitcher Logan Galbon had six strikeouts in his first start, allowing two earned in four innings.

The undefeated Spoto Spartans are the first Hillsborough County team to three wins on the season, as sophomore Antonio Roberts held Leto to a single hit and two walks in 4 2/3 innings of work. Roberts had three strikeouts before turning things over to Kelvin Ochoa, who allowed just a single walk while striking out four to earn the save. A hit batter started the fifth inning, Greg Hornsby hit a single, and the Spartans two runs scored on a double through the left side by Braylon Byrd. Leto’s Angel Arroyo was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out five, and Alex Abreau struck out four in two, no-hit innings.

Martin Galo picked up the win with five strikeouts, as the Lions pitchers struck out 10. Galo drove in two runs in the win, as did Ethan Santos; Cooper Messenger was 2-for-3, scoring twice. East Bay’s Mike Mowell finished with seven strikeouts in a no decision, leading the Indians pitchers in a 12-strikeout game; and Connor Gavigan went 2-for-4, with two RBI.
