Ja’Marques Benton held Plant to two runs (one earned) through six innings and was rewarded with a W, and Ethan Savinon earned a save, despite allowing a solo homer to left from Plant’s Wyatt Patterson. Tampa Prep 1
Junior Parker Mitzel struck out 12 in 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks to earn his second win of the season for Berkeley Prep. The Bucs scored three runs in two separate innings, taking control of the game in the third with an RBI single from Ben O’Brien and two runs on a hit from JD Haughey. O’Brien, who has earned two-straight weeks on our 813Preps Top Performers list, added a second RBI hit in the fifth, as the first six Bucs hitters reached on five singles and a walk. After a run scored on a wild pitch, Jett Walters added an RBI single to round out Berkeley’s scoring. Mitzel finally ran into some trouble in the second, recording two outs then three reached on an error, a hit batter and a walk, and the Terrapins lone run scored on passed ball. But Walters took over on the mound, got out of that jam and struck out three to close out the game.

Steinbrenner 5
#8 Robinson 3
Two hitless innings of relief by Steinbrenner’s Mason Koumas (two walks, three Ks) slammed the door on a win at home. After Robinson took the lead in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs on an RBI single by Cason Cooper to left and a wild pitch, Steinbrenner answered right back with a three-spot in the home-half taking advantage of some pitching struggles and two errors that allowed three to score and give the Warriors the lead for good. Robinson’s Samuel Hyman (1-for-3, RBI) took the loss, allowing just two earned in 4 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, two walks, and finishing with six Ks. Ty Ciccarello was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored for the Warriors, and Gavin Mix was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
