Cambridge Christian defeated Sarasota Christian for the third time this season and earned a spot in the Sunshine State Athletic Association State Championship (1A-4A) on Saturday. Will Snider held the Blazers to one earned run over four innings, striking out six, while the Lancers scored four in the first inning keyed by a two-run double by Alex Quintero and an RBI single by Ian Jansen. Senior Brody Bellomo was 2-for-4 with a double, four runs and four RBI, Blake Hafner had three RBI, and Nathan Hazard was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored.

Competing in the Sunshine State Athletic Association Class 5A State Semifinal Seffner Christian batted around in the sixth inning to defeat Casselberry Geneva 11-6. Jenuel Ortiz started the inning with a single lined to center field and ended the onslaught with an RBI single to right, capping a 4-for-5 day, scoring three times. Brayden Nanns went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI; Kris Colondres was 2-for-4 with two runs; and Bryce Nanns & Andrew Montero each went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the win. Alejandro Hamana pitched four relief innings, allowing one run and had six strikeouts, and Tyler Tate earned the win, pitching two innings, allowing two unearned and striking out four. Seffner Christian will play Vero Beach The Master’s Academy for the SSA 5A championship tomorrow at 3 p.m.

A Jack Smythe (3-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) RBI double and a Carson Arnold run-scoring groundout in the fourth inning started Tampa Catholic on its way to a lopsided victory over visiting Cardinal Mooney. Dominic Woodward held the Cougars to one unearned on give hits over six innings, finishing with four strikeouts, and was 1-for-3 with a double and a run at the plate. Cal Johnson went 2-for-3, homering in his second-straight game, adding a double and driving in four.

Lakewood Ranch scored three runs in the seventh inning to walk-off a win against Berkeley Prep with Angelo Cirruzzo lining a two-run single to right field to end the game. Hunter Antonelli worked all seven innings, allowing two earned runs, and struck out seven to earn the win for the Mustangs. Carson Binder doubled in the game’s first run; Joseph Troupe had two hits (one RBI single) and a RBI sacrifice bunt; and Parker Mitzel went 2-for-3 with a triple, double and run scored.

A leadoff error, a hit and a trio of walks in the bottom of seventh allowed IRC to tie the game and force extra innings, but Wharton composed itself and put up three runs in the eighth to finish off the week with a win. Drew Cobb‘s RBI sac fly proved the difference maker in the inning, but Antonio Fawcett (2-for-2, double, three walks) hit a solo home run, and Alex Johnstone had a pair of RBI in the in. Lucas Sauer struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings on the mound for the Wildcats, and James Spencer earned the win in relief picking up the final four outs.

Gaither’s Ryan Deak (2-for-3) singled in the sixth inning and scored on a Jeffrey Cavicci single to break open a scoreless game. The Cowboys added one more in the inning on a single by Eddy Rojo. But before all that, two starting pitchers went at it impressively: Freedom junior Dylan Hand held Gaither to two hits and four walks over five scoreless innings, while striking out six; while Cowboys junior Crafton Gaczewski only allowed two hits and struck out five in four innings. Gaither freshman Cooper Bliss pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed one hit and struck out four to earn the win, and Adam Smolka struck out two in his one inning to earn the save.

After seven days off, it took Carrollwood Day’s offense a little bit longer to get on the board answering a two-run deficit in the sixth inning when senior Steven Vargo led off the home half with a double, advanced on an error and a walk before the Patriots got on the board with a wild pitch and back-to-back RBI sac flies from Allen Soriano and Caleb Nursey. Evan Mazur worked five innings on the mound, allowing one run, on four hits and struck out four, and Matt Porta earned the win with two innings of relief, one run and three strikeouts. Bishop McLaughlin got a leadoff walk in the second followed by a Aiden Fox double, and an RBI single from Conner McGuire (2-for-3); Tyler Pizzio singled in Steele Thalleen (1-for-1, 2 R, 2 BB) in the sixth; and Dylan McNeil pitched six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, two walks and struck out two.
