Tampa Catholic senior Jose Carrero hit a solo home run and the Crusaders scored two more runs on passed balls to take a first-inning lead and hold on for a win over Kentucky’s Barren County. Sophomore Jack Giovenco held the Trojans to two runs on seven hits and struck out six, before senior Jake Owen finished off the final three innings, allowing just one hit and also striking out six. Lucas Cinnante was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored and Carrero had a single walk and another run scored in the win.

Down five run, Sickles offense exploded with six runs in the final inning at TD Ballpark, the comeback finalized by a three-run bomb from senior Braden RossZach Dial led off the seventh with a single, moved to third on a Cole Shearer double and scored on a line drive hit by Charlie Martz, a balk and fielder’s choice from JJ Nazar chipped into the Falcons lead. Dunedin jumped out early with a three-run first on the first of two home runs from Demetris Tsesmelis (five RBI), who also pitched six-plus innings before falling into trouble in the seventh. Jordan Yost was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Gryphons, and Ben Durda (1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) worked a scoreless seventh inning to lock up the save.

Sumner’s Juan Ovalle led a quartet of senior pitchers in a shutout performance against Brandon, going four innings, allowing one hit and striking out four, before one scoreless inning each from Naldiel Calderon (1 K), Isaiah Welch (3 K), Luke Parsons (2 K). A productive RBI groundout from Cameron Pauquette in the fourth broke up a scoreless game, Winston Pennant singled in a run, Parsons went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two runs scored, and Sebastian Rodriguez doubled in a pair. Brandon’s Charles Revi Rodriguez pitched three innings, allowed one run on one hit and had two strikeouts.

Alonso’s Raymond Llanes opened Monday’s road game at East Bay with a home run to center, but the Indians answered immediately putting up a four-spot in the home-half. Rory Beauford Jr.‘s RBI single tied the game, before East Bay loaded the bases for Jonathan Bryant‘s two-run double, and an RBI hit from Jeffrey Diab. Rowland Ruiz Jr. (2-for-3, run) built on to the lead with an RBI single and Connor Gavigan hit his fourth homer of the year to plate four and push the game far out of reach. JJ Groover pitched two innings and allowed just one run to earn the win, John Viane tossed 2 1/3 innings allowing one run and striking out four, and Mike Mowell struck out four in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Daniel Despaine was 3-for-3 with a double and stolen base for the Ravens, Llanes stole a base and scored his second run in the third on an RBI sac fly from Alvin Santiago (1-for-2)

Riverview 1

Plant City made a two-out error hurt in the first inning, following up with three hits including a two-run double by Tyler Black and an RBI single from Keegan Wilkerson. The Raiders got to mix in 18 offensive players in the game with Wilkerson picking up a pair of hits, Drew Cothren going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, Salvadore Jaramillo batting 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, and Alex Rodriguez driving in two and scoring twice while collecting three hits including a double. Jake Carbaugh struck out nine and held the Sharks to one hit in four innings, Hunter Carbaugh had five strikeouts in two innings, and Rodriguez worked around an error in the seventh, striking out one. Riverview senior Anthony Shellman homered to left in the sixth inning, and Chase Montminy was 2-for-3, and had six strikeouts in three innings of relief.

Durant got going in the fourth inning and chipped away at an early Chamberlain lead, finally taking control of the game on the second home run in the game from senior Brantley Hayward. The Cougars also got a homer from Jack Brooks in the seventh, who also struck out three while earning the save on the mound. Zach Nero picked up his first win of the year with four innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four. The Storm started the game with a two-run lead in the first when Brian Arteaga Diaz (2-for-3) doubled in a pair with a ground ball to right; and Xavier Ether (2-for-2, 2 R) homered in the sixth inning.

Liam Akins held SLAM to two unearned runs over five innings and struck out six, as the Terrapins unloaded with 10 runs in the second inning. Will Futch stayed hot at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and scored twice, Grant Brooks drove in a pair, and Derek Stiglich was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. For the Spartans, Chris Pope was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Isaiah Morales was 1-for-4 with an RBI sac fly and run-scoring triple.
