Indian Rocks Christian 1 – five innings

Blake Hafner (2-for-3, three RBI) singled in a pair of runs in the first inning as Cambridge Christian booked its spot in the region semifinals with a mercy-rule win over Indian Rocks Christian Tuesday afternoon. Trigg Listerman pitched five innings allowing one run on five hits, while striking out five, Luca Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI; Brody Bellomo doubled, scored two and drove in a pair; and Braiden Price was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs in the win. Austin Leiher singled in the second inning for IRC and scored the Eagles lone run on an RBI single by Daniel Darretta. Cambridge Christian will travel to Naples to face Neumann in the region semifinals beginning next Monday.

Seffner Christian 1 – five innings

Northside Christian senior Elijah De La Concha hit a two-run single in the second and a two-run double in the third leading the Mustangs to a decisive win in the region quarterfinal against Seffner Christian. Senior Ronald Causby pitched five innings, allowed one run on three hits and struck out four. Crusaders senior Brayden Nanns hit his ninth double of the season in the fourth inning and scored Seffner Christian’s lone run on a Uriah Bullock ground out. Nanns finishes the year with a .432 average and 25 runs scored. Northside Christian will host Ft Myers Canterbury in semifinal action next week.

Berkeley Prep put up five runs early in support of starting pitcher Ben O’Brien and held off a late rally attempt to advance to next week’s region semifinal action. O’Brien worked six innings, striking out seven while allowing just one earned run. The Buccaneers scored a pair of runs in the first on two balks, then added three runs in the second on fielder’s choice ground balls by JD Haughey and Parker Mitzel, followed by a Seahawks error. O’Brien helped his own cause in the fifth with an RBI single, Josh Herrmann was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and Joseph Troupe went 2-for-3. The Seahawks got a sixth inning home run from Cam Otterbeck and then added two runs in the seventh inning, but Jett Walters secured the save with help from an double-play outfield assist from MItsel in right throwing home to Carson Binder, and then a groundout to end the game. The Buccaneers will host Carrollwood Day in next week’s 2A-3 semifinal.

Bishop McLaughlin 7

Tampa Catholic scored four runs in both the second and third innings and held off a Bishop McLaughlin comeback as the Crusaders forced a deciding Game 3 on Thursday on the road. After the Hurricanes went up three in the first inning, powered by RBI doubles from Steele Thalleen and Elvys Quezada, TC answered back with steady scoring the next two innings. Jayden Mera started the comeback with an RBI singled and the next inning walked stole second and eventually stole home, Daniel Smythe doubled in one, Cal Johnson hit an RBI single, and Jack Smythe hit an RBI triple and scored a run. Chris Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with two walks, giving the Hurricanes senior 10 hits over the last three games, and Chris Bell went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Lucas Cinnante earned the win for the Crusaders striking out six, while allowing one earned run over 3 1/3 innings, and Dominic Woodward had two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings of relief allowing one unearned run on one hit. The series moves to Bishop McLaughlin on Thursday for the deciding game.

Carrollwood Day took control early with back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles from Julian Earle (3-for-4, 2 runs), Ashton Brown (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI), and Kam Battle in the first inning, while senior Allen Soriano was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in the win, earning the Patriots a spot in next week’s region semifinal against district foe Berkeley Prep. Evan Mazur held the Terrapins to one hit over three innings to earn the win with four strikeouts, while Gabe Troya allowed one earned over the final four inning striking out three. Tampa Prep’s Will Futch doubled and scored on a Jordan Della Rocca single in the fifth inning, and the Terrapins added one in the seventh on a Liam Akins double.

Calvary Christian junior Caden Schlotterbeck pitched 4 2/3 no-hit innings and the Warriors held off a late Jefferson rally to win its region quarterfinal series over the Dragons. Senior Gabriel Campos went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and an RBI double in the win, and Maddox Bozeman was 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI. Jefferson battled back late, with a two-run homer from Logan Galban and an RBI double from Ethan Savinon in the sixth inning, and two runs in the seventh when Elijah Benton doubled and scored on a wild pitch, and Ja’Marques Benton drove in a run on a sac fly. #3-seed Calvary Christian will travel to face #2-seed North Broward Prep in the region semis next week.

A day after getting no-hit in a five-inning mercy-rule game, Bonita Springs returned to Jesuit and forced a deciding game three in the region quarterfinal round Thursday night in Southwest Florida. Bullsharks senior Landon Ide held the Tigers to two runs over 4 1/3 innings, while striking out six, and freshman Jhon Rodriguez struck out five the rest of the way and held off a seventh inning rally allowing one run, but ending the game with his fifth strikeout and the tying run at second base. Ide doubled in the game’s first run in the opening inning, and Jacob Estrada built on in the third with a two-run homer. Jesuit answered with two in the fifth, first on an RBI single by Kaden Waechter and then another on a Robby Santana sac fly. But the Bullsharks would add an all-important insurance run in the sixth on a sac fly from Riley Proulx, allowing Bonita Springs to survive when the Tigers added a run in the final inning on a Vincent DeCarlo sac fly.
