TAMPA – Jesuit junior Wilson Andersen pitched a complete-game shutout over visiting Naples Barron Collier, setting a career high with 16 strikeouts as the Tigers won the opening game of the best-of-three Class 4A-Region 3 Final series, 8-0.

Andersen allowed just one walk, a bunt single and hit one batter in his 106-pitch outing, improving to 9-3 on the season.

The Tigers (24-9) offense got going in the second inning when sophomore Bryce Besece lined a solo home run over the wall in right. Andersen followed with the first of two doubles and would score on a Samir Mohammed groundball.

Jesuit built up the lead in the third on a Kaden Waechter RBI sac fly, before putting the game well out of reach in the fourth with homers from Andersen and Christian Sheffield. Waechter added the fourth home run of the night for the Tigers to lead off the fifth, and Andersen doubled in a run for his third RBI of the game later in the inning. Brody Smith doubled and scored a run in the win as well, and Vincent DeCarlo was 2-for-3.

The Tigers will host the Cougars again tonight for Game 2 of the Region Final series, and if necessary a third deciding game will be hosted by Barron Collier on Thursday.
