Berkeley Prep senior Joseph Troupe‘s three-run home run to leftfield in the sixth broke a two-all tie and pushed the Buccaneers back to the state final four for the first time since 2022’s state runner-up finish. The Bucs got on the board with two-out hitting in the third inning as Josh Herrman doubled, and after a walk Parker Mitzel doubled in a pair of runs. Mitzel pitched four scoreless innings to start the game, before a Chris Bell single started the home-fifth and two errors followed to allow one run, then Steele Thalleen tied the game with a RBI sac fly. Mitzel pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing the two unearned runs on three hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts. Keith Jacobs was 2-for-4 for Bishop McLaughlin, hitting a single and scoring Hurricanes final run on a passed ball in the seventh. Jett Walters earned the save with 1 2/3 innings of relief and two strikeouts. Berkeley Prep won two-straight to book its spot in Ft Myers for the state semifinal, which takes place Tuesday, May 20th from Hammond Stadium.
