Plant City 3
Strawberry Crest sophomore Bubba Blount took over in a tied game in the fourth inning and gave his team three no-hit innings of relief, issuing one walk and striking out three. In the sixth got going with a Jaxon Beattie single, a walk and an intentional walk to load the bases, and Josh Cespedes sent a ground ball to the right side to drive in a run and another scored on a Plant City error – giving the Chargers the cushion needed to hold off the Raiders in the final inning and advance to Friday’s district championship game, where Crest will host Sumner. A Reuben Vasquez RBI sac fly in the second and a Yusvanny Parra RBI ground out gave the Chargers an early lead, but Plant City answered with three-straight singles in the fourth – Max Cieslo (2-for-3) singling in Drew Cothren, and Alex Rodrigues scoring on a wild pitch. The Raiders took two walks in the seventh off of Chargers closer Saxon Shah, and got a run across on a passed ball, before Shah ended the game with a strikeout.

Jefferson held back the Storm for a one-run semifinal victory and locked up a place in Friday’s district final against Lakeland McKeel. Four extra-base hits in the third inning helped the Dragons build an early lead with Kaleb Cherry hitting a one-out triple, Ethan Savinon doubling in a run, Sam Hyman immediately trading places with his own RBI double, and Elijah Benton doubling in a run in succession. Savinon (2-for-3) added a bases-loaded walk to the tally; John Oliver was 2-for-4; and Manny Baez was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Chamberlain didn’t go away however, as a pair of errors turned into two runs and chased Hyman from the mound (Win, 5.2ip, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K). Brennan Kay went 2-for-4 with an RBI double for the Storm; and Aidan Felix pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts. The win was No. 100 for Jefferson head coach Spencer Nunez.

KJ Sampson was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI; Qwenlen Bennett was 1-for-2, with two RBI and two walks; Jeffrey Diab was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored; and Rowland Ruiz Jr. was 1-for-2 with three walks, a double and two runs scored.
