A George Cook (1-for-1, 3 RBI) RBI sac bunt and an RBI single lined to right by LJ Ulmer (2-for-3) gave the Buccaneers all they would need in the second inning, but Berkeley Prep kept pouring it on – ending Friday’s Game 1 via mercy rule as junior Jett Walters allowed just one run across five innings, and struck out five to earn his eighth win of the year. Carson Binder was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a double; Mason Warren was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three runs scored; Ben O’Brien was 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two runs; and Lucas Farrar was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Game 2 will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday from Berkeley Prep.

Tampa Catholic put up eight runs on a 11 hits, scoring in all but one of its at-bats to take Game 1 of the region semis against Cardinal Mooney. DJ Ford was 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored; Cole Bitman was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI; and Christian Serralles was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI in support of Ty Fraga‘s seventh win on the mound – the junior allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings, while striking out six, before Finn Fluker pitched 1 1/3 innings of no-hit relief. John Badala hit two solo home runs for the Cougars. Game 2 is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.

Jefferson took an early lead as an error, hit batter and RBI singles by Ethan Savinon and Elijah Benton gave the Dragons and early lead and chased Calvary’s starting pitcher, but Kanin Summey stepped up with five innings of relief, allowing one earned run and struck out eight as the Warriors answered back, then broke a tie game in the fourth with an RBI double by Jack Hunter (2-for-4, 2 runs, two RBI) and an RBI single by Jase Traina (3-for-3, 3 RBI, run) – before the duo also had RBI hits in a five-run fifth inning to put it away. Luke Straw was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the win; Matthew Bowser was 2-for-2, with a homer, walk two RBI and three runs scored. Kaleb Cherry was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI single for the Dragons. Game 2 is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start from Calvary Christian on Saturday.

East Bay couldn’t get out of an early hole as Charlotte put up five runs in the first two innings and added a pair of two-run innings later in the game. The Indians scored four in the fourth inning on two wild pitches, a Jeffrey Diab bases-loaded walk, and a Connor Gavigan (2-for-3) RBI sac fly, but only had four hits in the loss. Game 2 is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.

Freedom junior Gaige Spano scattered six hits and didn’t issue a walk in a complete-game effort as the Patriots won Game 1 at Palmetto Ridge Friday night. A pair of walks to start the game turned into the deciding run as Devon Acord hit an RBI fielder’s choice to shortstop to score Logan Handville; Freedom again got the first two aboard in the second and Dominick Commiso drove in an insurance run on a similar ground ball to short; and the final run came in the sixth as Parker Crafton was hit by a pitch, moved up on a Keven Made (2-for-4) single to left, and scored on a Sebastian Price sac fly to left. Junior RHP David Simpkins gets the start on the mound for Game 2 on Saturday, which is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

Sickles senior Ayden Rivera held Gaither to just two singles and a walk, while striking out six across 6 2/3 shutout innings, before Ben Durda came on in relief with a man on first and got a ground ball out as the Gryphons took Game 1 at Gaither Friday night. Emilio Salgado (2-for-3) and Lee Melamut started the fourth inning for Sickles with singles, the Cowboys got an out at the plate, but the Gryphons scored the deciding run on Gaither’s lone error of the game. Senior Matt Altman took his first loss of the season, despite allowing no earned runs, on four hits, three walks and had three strikeouts. The two will run it back for Game 2 tomorrow at 1 p.m. from Gaither.

Plant City jumped out to a four-run first-inning lead sandwiching four singles and a walk around a Winter Haven error, and added a fifth run the next inning on another error, but the Blue Devils answered with back-to-back three-run innings in the second and third to hold off the Raiders in Game 1 of the semifinals. Keegan Wilkerson drove in a pair in the loss; Parker Scott and Max Cieslo (run) were both 2-for-4. Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m on Saturday.
