After not fielding a team in 2023, the Blake Yellow Jackets battled it out at Brandon in its Welcome Back game, putting together a 11-run seventh inning to win its season opener. Junior catcher Marcus Smith tracked a ball behind the plate to squeeze the game-ending foul ball to secure the win. Zechariah Ayers had a pair of hits, drove in a run and scored twice for the Yellow Jackets, while Anthony Matthews and Victor Mendez each had a hit, RBI and scored three runs. Francis Ovalles paced the offense for Brandon, going 3-for-5, with a run and RBI.

Salvadore Jaramillo put a fly ball deep enough to right field to bring in a run as the Raiders walked off on opening night against visiting Wharton, Jaramillo was 2-for-3 on the night, one of seven Plant City hitters to record at least one hit in the win. Jake Carbaugh struck out seven in a no-decision, allowing two runs on four hits, before freshman Mathew Werner spun four innings of one-hit ball, striking out 10 in his debut. Wharton’s Justis Meadows (two runs) put a ball out to center on the game’s first pitch; while Wildcats pitchers struck out nine (Chase Andress – 5, Luke Sauer – 4).

A two-out, bases loaded error in the seventh allowed defending state champions Lakeland Christian to stretch out its lead and hold off a final-inning rally at Seffner Christian on Tuesday. Cyrus Shokrani (2-for-4, two runs) homered for the Crusaders, while Conor Browne went deep for the Vikings. Garrett Morgan led SCA’s offense, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double.

Will Jennewein‘s two-run homer in the top of the seventh tied the game, forcing extra innings where Tampa Prep got pushed across the deciding run on a walk and eventual wild pitch. Jennewein was 2-for-3, doubling and walking twice, and junior Kyle Brill tossed three innings of hitless relief, allowing three walks and striking out for. Berkeley Prep got a two-run homer from David Parker and Julius Pfau doubled and drove in two. The Buccaneers pitching staff struck out 11 in the loss, led by a three-inning, six-K start from Parker Mitzel.

King stretched out an early lead as Cooper Messenger picked up his team’s first hit – an RBI line drive single to make it 3-0 Lions in the second; and senior Jayden Hill led off the third with a solo home run to right to push the game out of reach. Carlos Rivera held TBT to just four hits across 4 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball to earn the win for King. Sadarian Austin singled to start the home-third and a pair of walks and an error allowed the Titans two runs; Mathew Rojas had a pair of singles in the loss.

Hillsborough drew seven, first-inning walks to take a three-run lead to pick up a win at Robinson. Junior Adriano Parral struck out 13 across six innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits. Curtis Roberts had a pair of RBI, Aiden Morales went 2-for-3, scoring twice, and Ozzy Font lined an RBI double to center for the Terriers. Tyson Boyd drove in Robinson’s run with a single lined to center.

A committee of Cowboys pitchers struck out 11 and held the Wolves to a single hit (Braden Moon single), with senior Zach Callahan picking up the win with two scoreless innings of relief and a pair of K’s. Along with Hernandez, four more Cowboys hitters had doubles.

Vincent Antuna struck out seven in his five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) earning the win, while Christopher Padilla struck out two and Alonso closed out the game to earn the save. Carson Vega doubled and scored in a two-hit game. Lennard mounted a comeback attempt in the fifth when Kevin Hunter singled in a run and scored on a single from Mattie Counts. Zack Bird struck out six in a losing effort, and Pablo Garcia had seven punch outs in four innings.

Nine Tampa Catholic players recorded a hit as the Crusaders finished off SLAM in five innings. Andrew Bunner drove in the game’s first run in the opening half, but that was all the offense the Spartans could muster as four TC pitchers held their opponents in check. Carson Arnold was 2-for-3 in the win scoring twice, while Hershey Sanchez and Jose Carrero also scored a pair of runs for the Crusaders. Alex Sotiropoulos struck out five in his two-inning start.
