2025 Most Valuable Player (1A-5A)

Helping Jesuit to another district and region title, and his third-straight (Jesuit’s fourth) final four appearance, Wilson Andersen’s junior season was impressive. Stepping up for the first half of the season into the starting shortstop role, before moving back to second base later in the year, he finished tied for second on his team with 26 hits, batted .286 with 21 RBI, 15 runs scored, hit eight doubles and five home runs, while also stealing eight bases. Andersen did all of this on top of finishing tied in the county in wins (a 9-4 record), second in strikeouts (105), posted a 1.04 ERA against the toughest-ranked schedule in the state of Florida. He tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the region quarterfinals against Bonita Springs, tossed three complete-game shutouts and started in four more shutouts for his team. In his complete game shutout to start Jesuit’s region final series against Naples Barron Collier, Andersen allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out a career high 16 batters.

2025 Pitcher of the Year (1A-5A)

Berkeley Prep senior lefty Rivers Kurland graduates as one of the most decorated players in 813Preps history, finishing as an All-813Preps second team selection for his freshman season, and a three-time All-813Preps first teamer. He led the Buccaneers to its second final four appearance in the last four years, while going 7-3, with a county-leading 0.42 ERA and 118 strikeouts (No. 5 in Florida this season). Kurland, a University of Florida signee, tossed a four-inning no-hitter against Cambridge Christian and a complete-game no-hitter against Carrollwood Day in the region semifinals. He had six double-digit strikeout games this year, and finished his career with 27 wins and 387 strikeouts.

2025 Hitter of the Year (6A-7A)

Junior Parker MItzel powered Berkeley Prep’s offense this season, helping the Buccaneers to 25 wins, by leading Hillsborough County’s Classes 1A-5A with 40 hits and 41 RBI. MItzel batted .367, scored 25 times and stole 10 bases, while hitting 13 doubles, one triple and seven home runs. He had 11 multi-hit games, and 12 multi-RBI games, while also going 4-1 on the mound, with one save a 1.03 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.

2025 Coach of the Year (6A-7A)

In his third season as the head coach of Cambridge Christian, John DiBenedetto posted a 19-11 record, which included an eight-game win streak. During that stretch the Lancers won the Sunshine State Athletic Association State Championship, and went 2-2 in the Silver Division of the Saladino Tournament. CCS reached the Class 1A region tournament for the 10th time in program history.

2025 All-813Preps First Team Class 1A-5A
Cambridge Christian’s Brody Bellomo hit .359 (33 hits) while earning his second All-813Preps First Team selection. Bellomo, a Georgia Southwestern State signee, scored 32 runs, stole 16 bases, drove in 17 runs, and hit eight doubles, three triples and one home run.

Locking down the hot corner this season for the district and region champion Tigers, sophomore Bryce Besece posted a .953 fielding percentage. A the plate he hit .342, with 23 RBI and 12 runs, stole seven bases, while hitting four triples, three doubles and one home run.

Carson Binder finished tied (with teammate Parker Mitzel) for the county lead in Classes 1A-5A with 40 hits (a .367 avg). He scored 25 runs, drove in 19, had 11 doubles and two home runs, helping the Buccaneers to a 25-10 record, a region title and a state semifinal finish.

Tampa Catholic senior outfielder Jose Carrero batted .358 with team-leading 26 RBI and scored 19 times helping the Crusaders to a district title. A four-year varsity player, Carrero hit nine doubles, five home runs and stole eight bases. He finished his career with a .318 average and is a State College of Florida signee.

Class 1A-5A Defensive Player of the Year: Jesuit’s on-field leader, Vincent DeCarlo was outstanding behind the plate with a .982 fielding percentage. The NC State signee also led the district and region champion Tigers with 38 hits (.392 avg), drove in 19 runs, scored 11 times, while hitting seven doubles and three home runs. DeCarlo becomes Jesuit’s first-ever four-time state semifinalist player and hit .340 over his varsity career.

A member of a strong defense for the district runner-up and region semifinalist Patriots, Earle batted .436 (34 hits) with five doubles, 21 RBI and 15 runs scored. A four-year varsity baseball player and a member of CDS’ football team for the last two seasons, Earle was a big factor in centerfield for CDS with no errors.

East Bay junior Connor Gavigan was a standout two-way player this season, while helping the Indians win a district title for the first time since 1983 and reach the region tourney for the first time since 2001. Gavigan finished tied for the 1A-5A county lead with 41 RBI, hit .393, with 23 runs, seven doubles, four homers and 10 stolen bases. He also had 30 strikeouts in 17 innings on the mound this season and went 2-1.

Cambridge Christian’s Blake Hafner had a strong first varsity season last year as an eighth grader (double-digit runs and RBI) and built on to that with an outstanding freshman campaign. Hafner led the region semifinalist Lancers with 35 hits (.365 avg), while driving in 23 RBI, scored 16 times, with three doubles. He also went 3-2 on the mound, with a 1.43 ERA and two saves.

A great mix of power and speed, Josh Herrmann was a big part of an impressive lineup for state semifinalist Berkeley Prep. The junior centerfielder batted .325, stole 20 bases, scored 31 runs and drove in 24 RBI. Herrmann hit 10 doubles, two home runs, one triple and had eight multi-hit games this year.

Junior righty Ben O’Brien finished tied for the county lead in wins, going 9-1 this year with a 1.76 ERA and 78 strikeouts for the state semifinalist Buccaneers. While not on the mound, O’Brien served as the Bucs starting second baseman, where he was a part of eight double plays. He batted .351 with 15 RBI, 13 runs and six doubles.

Earning All-813Preps First Team honors for the second-straight season, CDS’ righty Nick Riedel went 6-4 this season. He third in strikeouts for 1A-5A teams in the county with 87, while pitching three shutouts. The Newberry College signee had six complete games and four double-digit strikeout games, helping his team to a Saladino tournament semifinal, a district runner-up finish and a region semifinal berth.

Robby Santana led the Tigers with 29 RBI and nine doubles this season, while batting .321. The HCC commit helped the Tigers to district and region championships while scoring 18 times with four home runs and one triple. He walked 18 times and had a 10-game hit streak in April.

Jesuit lefty Ryan Thompson made a big impact for the state semifinalist Tigers this season going 5-2 on the mound. The FGCU signee posted a 1.62 ERA with 56 strikeouts. Thompson struck out 11 of the 20 batters he faced in an early-March win against 1A region semifinalist Naples Neumann.

A two-sport standout at CDS, Vargo finished second in the county with 23 stolen bases, while batting 370, scoring 30 times and driving in 11 runs. Vargo, a Bowdoin College signee in both baseball and football, had four doubles, a triple and home run. He committed just four errors in 94 total chances (a .957 fielding %).

Tampa Catholic’s No. 1 on the mound went 4-3 this season with 71 strikeout s and a 1.76 ERA, while also playing outfield and batting .321 for the district champion Crusaders. The State College of Florida signee scored 23 runs, had 22 RBI with four doubles and six home runs.
