Jesuit senior Wilson Andersen struck out 12 over six innings, picking up the win in a pitcher’s duel against Bishop Verot on Friday night. Andersen and Vikings senior Joey Lawson (4.2ip, 10 K) went at it with Verot getting a first-inning run on two Tigers’ errors and a balk; from there Andersen would give up just one more single before turning things over to Will Burke who struck out two in a 1-2-3 inning to earn his second save of the year. Jesuit catcher Brady Marshall (2-for-3) singled in the third, was replaced by speed-up runner Tyler Trombley, who would tie the game scoring on a wild pitch, before the Tigers got the deciding run later in the third on a Vikings error, scoring Burke (2-for-3).

After spotting Plant a run in the first, Plant City’s Parker Scott led off the home-half with a triple, before RBI singles by Drew Cothren (2-for-3, three RBI), Alex Rodriguez, James Marinez and Keegan Wilkerson (2-for-3, two runs) sparked a six-run rally and gave the Raiders all they would need for a win over the Panthers. Jake Carbaugh struck out six, and allowed two runs on five hits and five walks over five inning to earn the win; and Merrick Smith gave up a run on three hits, and struck out two in two innings of relief. Jordan Olivia singled, doubled and scored a run for Plant, and Gio Benitez was 2-for-3.

Durant senior Aidan Junttila made his first start on the mound, pitching two hitless innings, striking out four and helped out his own cause with an RBI single to kick off a four-run second inning for the Cougars. Brady Kelley (3-for-4, three RBI) added two with a single to left, and Brennan Bailey extended the lead with a triple to centerfield. In the second, Shawn Graves hit the first of two doubles (one RBI) and scored twice in the win. An error and an RBI single by Jordan Shultz got Riverview on the board in the fourth; but the Sharks couldn’t muster anything else as David Paredes (2ip, 6 K’s) and Gavin Lewis (1ip) locked it down on the mound to close out the game.

A double-steal in the second tied the game, before the Barons took the lead on an error where two more runs scored. Jaren Samon went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs for SPC; and Grayson Barlow went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Newsome held defending 6A state champions St. Thomas Aquinas in check for four innings, but the Raiders put up to massive innings late to take a win. Cooper Topp pitched 4 2/3 innings, striking out six but was tagged with six runs (two earned); a productive RBI groundball by Trey Bosso put the Wolves ahead in the first, and Newsome scored a run in the second on an Alec Chin sac fly, in the third when Ocean Cozart doubled and scored on a Jacob Swartzlander RBI single (who also added an RBI in the fifth). Jake Caruthers homered twice and drove in four for the Raiders, and Mauricio Clement was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI.

Back-to-back doubles in the first by Ian Jansen and Jayden Jardine in the first gave the Lancers all they would need in the run department. Trigg Listerman went 2-for-3 with three RBI; Blake Hafner was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs; and Braden Price was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Alex Quintero however had the biggest day with a homer and and an RBI single, driving in five in the win.

Strawberry Crest went to work with two down in the third inning, drawing a pair of walks before senior Nico Cappucci doubled in a pair to left, eventually stole home and Bubba Blount stretched out the lead with a lined RBI double to leftfield. The Chargers took advantage of a wild throw on a Reuben Vasquez bunt allowing Jaxon Beattie move from first to the plate for what would turn out to be a much-needed insurance run in the fourth. The Raiders responded with a Jaden Doverspike RBI double and a RBI single by Hunter Mercer in the fifth and an RBI sac fly in the seventh before Crest reliever Jayden Taylor finished off the game with a save. Saxon Shah picked up his third win on the mound, allowing three runs over six innings and had six strikeouts.

In the home-second Camden McBane led off with single, took second on an error and scored on another error for the deciding run.

Yohan Cintron doubled in the first two of his four RBI in the first, and Aiden Sansing followed right behind with an RBI double of his own; Raymond Llanes was 2-for-2 with a walk, three RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases in the win; and Maikol Madueno had two hits including a double, RBI and run scored. King put up three in the fourth inning as Levi Dunlop led off with a single, Caleb Miesz doubled and Gabe Guillott doubled in both, before Chase Pawlowski added to the inning with an RBI groundout.

Steinbrenner broke open a tie game in the fourth inning as Rylen Dutka opened with a double to centerfield and scored on a Beaux Livingston (2-for-4, two runs) single to left, as the Warriors scored five runs in the inning. Ty Ciccarello went 2-for-3 and scored three; Evan Juan was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and allowed one run over 2 2/3 innings on three hits, two walks with one strikeout; and Coby Moesching doubled in a pair and scored three times for the Warriors. The Mustangs strung together four hits in the third inning, ending with an RBI line drive by Yeilen Rodriguez lined to right for Morgan’s only run. Jordan Anstett held the Mustangs to just four singles in 2 1/3 to earn the win; and Moesching pitched two perfect innings with five strikeouts to close it out.
