Cambridge Christian rallied for a walk-off win in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference State Championship, meaning the Lancers will defend last year’s state championship against St. Augustine’s St. Joseph tomorrow at 6p from Sanford Memorial Stadium. Down a run and to the last out, the Lancers got a base runner on Luca Gonzalez‘s walk, and tied the game on an RBI double by Trigg Listerman (3-for-4, two doubles) to centerfield; Listerman advanced to third on the throw and Ian Jansen drove in the deicing run with a single to left. Will Snider pitched four innings, allowed two run-on three hits and four walks, while striking out two. Zach Uhl struck out four and held Geneva to just one hit the final three innings and earned the win. St. Joseph currently ranks sixth in the FHSAA Class 1A standings and Cambridge is seventh.

Sumner senior Winston Pennant (2-for-3( hit a two-run home run to left field, scoring Jaylin Chambers (single) in the first inning – and that was all Ethan DeJesus would need – as the Stingrays senior held Alonso to two hits and a walk, while striking out 11 in a complete-game shutout.

Gaither’s pitching held East Bay in check as Dylan Schale (4.2ip, 2 R, 1 H, 1BB, 6 K) and Noah Lockler (Win, 2.2ip, 1 BB, 7 K) kept things close and the Cowboys offense pulled away in the seventh for a win. Yenier Chirinos (2-for-3) led off the seventh with a single, SJ Branham (2-for-4, two RBI) gave the Cowboys the lead with an RBI hit, and with the bases loaded Will Wade was hit by a pitch to add some insurance. Connor Gavigan pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Indians, allowed three earned and struck out nine.

Armwood pulled ahead quickly on visiting Robinson as Elijah Battiste (2-for-4, two runs) doubled in the first of four first-inning runs. Dylan Michiels was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored for the Hawks; Justin Hamilton earned the win with 6 1/3 innings on the mound, three earned runs allowed and four strikeouts, before Inri Beltre closed out the game’s final two outs. Robinson’s Collin Rosenberg was 3-for-4 with an RBI; and Tyler Shoemaker doubled in a pair of runs.

Bloomingdale rallied for a win for the third-straight game, answering an early Plant run with two runs in each of the Bulls final two at-bats. Braxton Wilken singled to left to tie the game, and an error gave the Bulls the lead in the sixth. Luke Long went 5 1/3 innings on the mound, holding the Panthers to one run in the first (scored by Gio Benitez, who had singled and scored on a balk). Long earned his fifth win, allowing three hits and had seven strikeouts, before Evan Plusquellic struck out two in the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his second save. Saul Aponte (3-for-3, two runs) singled in one in the seventh and JJ Santiago doubled in the final run for the Bulls. Nick Townley pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Panthers, charged with just one earned run, while striking out seven.

RBI singles by Trey Bosso, Jacob Swartzlander (2-for-3, run) and JJ Shotwell helped Newsome stretch out an early lead as the Wolves held off Plant City in a weather-shortened win at home. Alec Chin was 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored for the Wolves; and Joe Calabria pitched five innings, allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out six to earn the win. A walk and an error allowed Parker Scott to score the game’s first run for Plant City in the first inning; and Jake Carbaugh struck out eight in 3 2/3 innings on the mound for the Raiders.

A two-out error allowed Durant to take the lead in the fifth, and a passed ball added another before Aidan Junttila lined an RBI single to stretch out a lead for the Cougars. Wharton responded with six runs in the top of the sixth when lightning forced a stoppage of play and the umpires ruled after a long delay the game would be called and reverted back to the last completed inning. The Cougars took the win, with Tristan Macpherson going 2-for-2 with two RBI; Jacob Purcell going 2-for-3 with a solo home run; and Zach Nero earning the win with five innings pitched, one earned run allowed na three strikeouts. Daniel Duno struck out four in 4 2/3 innings, tagged with seven runs – but only one of them earned.

Another wild game with extensive weather delays saw King tie the game in the sixth, only for Freedom to get Devon Acord on base due to a walk, followed by a two-base error allowing him to move up and the game ending on a balk scoring the deciding run. David Simpkins, Brady Hall and Parker Crafton (double) each had one hit and two RBI for the Patriots in the win; Simpkins struck out six, while allowing five unearned runs, and Trent Strawser struck out three in 1 1/3 innings of relief and was rewarded with a win. Gabe Guillott (3-for-5, RBI, run) hit his eighth and ninth doubles of the year for King; Caleb Miesz was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored; and Michael Pena doubled and drove in three runs in the loss.

Nico Cappucci got Strawberry Crest’s offense going with a solo home run in the first inning, and also scored as part of the Chargers’ four-run third, where Josh Cespedes and Yusvanny Parra singled in runs helping their team pull away from Steinbrenner. Ivan Sada allowed one run on two hits over three innings, with two strikeouts to earn his first win; and Jayden Taylor struck out three, allowed one unearned run in his four inning relief outing. Gavin Mix doubled and scored a run for the Warriors; and Evan Eagle sacrificed in a run.

Vero Beach Master’s Academy 2 – six innings
Seffner Christian senior Tyler Tate pitched all six innings, holding Master’s Academy to one earned run on three hits and struck out six as the Crusaders offense pulled away with two big innings. Caleb Palaez started off a four-run second inning with an RBI infield single, and Mason McBane, Kensen Angel and Christian Villanueva followed suit with RBI hits. Palaez, McBane, Villanueva, Uriah Bullock and Camden McBane each had two hits in the win. Seffner Christian awaits today’s winner of the other SSAC 3A semifinal game between Bell Creek and Sarasota Christian, for a schedule championship final tonight.
