Strawberry Crest 5, Freedom 0

Strawberry Crest pitching has had a solid week as first Alex Marshall tossed a one-hitter against Armwood Tuesday, before Kade Manderscheid and Damien Torres (win) combined for a no-hitter as the Chargers won a big district game against Freedom. Tanner Kelley had a pair of doubles, while Derek Barone and Ryan Dell each doubled and singled in the win.

Newsome 3, Alonso 2 (10 innings)

After both teams scratched out two runs in the first three innings, Class 9A-District 8 opponents Alonso and Newsome battled through six scoreless, before the Wolves got something cooking in the bottom of the 10th. Sawyer Smith worked a seven-pitch walk, was moved over by a Jacob Phelps sac bunt and Tyler Rohrberg single, and scored the winning run as Cade Afeld hit a sac fly to left. Trey Cruz had an RBI double for the Wolves, while Cole Stallings earned the win in relief for Newsome pitching four innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. The second tough, extra-inning loss for Alonso this week featured seven innings from senior Franco Aleman, who allowed his first two runs of the season and struck out seven in a no-decsion, and the Ravens had a double from Andrew Lara

Lennard 7, Armwood 2

A rough start by Armwood gave Lennard a four-run head start in the first, and the Longhorns didn’t let up. Lennard junior Victor Schilling struck out seven in his four innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits, and was also 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. Yazael Nunez, Edward Tarrant and Wyatt Buzzbee each drove in a run in the win. For Armwood, Chris Tavarez was 2-for-3 with a double and Amaury Quinones had a triple.

Plant City senior captain Dylan Robinson got things started off right with a two-run home run to center in the first inning and the Raiders kept churning defeating Class 8A-District 6 and neighborhood rival Durant. Junior Cade Shissler was 3-for-3, with three runs scored, while junior lefty Parker Messick improved to 5-0 on the mound this season. For Durant, Coleton Brogden drove in a pair of runs and Ahmad Fitts had a two hits with a double and scored twice.

King 11, Tampa Bay Tech 2

King’s Zarrian Brinson bookended a big, eight-run fourth inning with RBI singles as the Lions came-from-behind then exploded for a home win over Tampa Bay Tech. Addison Barger and Justice Thompson each had RBI singles and doubles in the win, both finishing with three RBI.
Brandyn Borkowski hit his second home run of the season in the fourth season for the Titans.

Bloomingdale junior Nico Saladino tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just six hits and striking out seven to lead the Bulls to a win at Brandon. Dominic Gonnella was 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, a run scored and an RBI, while Brock Wilken had two hits, and Connor Berning had a triple. Jett Davis, Bryce Hazzard and Antonio DeJesus each had RBI for the Bulls.

Junior Ty Correa picked up the win on the mound for Riverview.

Sickles picked up it’s second win on the year over district opponent Steinbrenner as Zane Tarrance doubled and drove in three. Josh Luther was 2-for-3, with two RBI, Connor McTeer went 2-for-4, with two runs scored and an RBI, and Michael Lojocano had two hits and scored twice. Dylan Eskew allowed five runs, but the Gryphons hitters supported the junior to his fourth win on the mound this season. Chase Centala earned the save working 2 1/3 innings of shutout baseball. Steinbrenner senior Jordan Lala (Miami signee) had a single double, home run and two runs scored, while Justin Turk had a two-run double in the loss.

Austin Glasgow was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Fogg helped his cause with an RBI, as did Paul Jennewein, while Andrew McMillan was 3-for-4 with a double in the win.

Half of Bayshore Christian’s twelve hits were doubles, including a pair from senior David Santiago as the Faith Warriors defeated First Academy on Thursday. Sophomore Justin Santiago, who was 2-for-3, with a run scored and RBI at the plate, worked 5 2/3 innings to earn the win on the mound, before Nate Fernandez finished the game. Sophomore Nate Fernandez was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three stolen bases for Bayshore.

Tampa Prep fell behind to out-of-state visitor Bay Port early, but came back in a big way in the fifth. Ryan Savitt was 4-for-4, with a triple, a run and RBI, while Charlie Vari hit his second homer of the season and had three RBI, and Nico Apostoleres had a single and two RBI for the Terrapins. Sophomore Lucas Harman earned the win, working 3 2/3 runs of relief, allowing no runs, four hits and striking out three, while Landon Schabes picked up the save.

Senior Brandon Driscoll doubled twice and drove in three, while Orlando Arevalo also had a double and had four RBI, and Hunter Holland hit two doubles, scoring twice for the Cowboys. Senior Aaron Jensen had two doubles and an RBI for the Terriers and Elijah West doubled and drove in four.

Fellow senior Will Gilbert was 2-for-4 with three RBI as well, while Dean Collins (double) and Jackson Shelton each had two hits for SCA. Andrew Rodriguez worked two shutout innings on the mound, and hit a double in the win.

Cambridge Christian sophomore Tilden Agee was 3-for-3, with a pair of doubles and three RBI to key the Lancers offense in a win over the Phoenix. Sevas Cardona also doubled and drove in a run in his three-hit night. Jacob Krueger picked up his fourth win of the year on the mound, while Ethan McCoy tossed two shutout innings, and Austin Carter earned the save with a perfect seventh. The save was the sixth of Carter’s career and set a new school career mark.
